Carrying capacity#

The hotbar always has 12 slots. A new farm also has a 12-slot backpack, for 24 carried slots total.

There is no upgrade control in this menu. Acquiring a larger backpack through a shop or another service is proposed; it is not playable yet.

Opening the backpack#

E / I opens the weathered scrapbook, showing available backpack rows above the hotbar; unavailable rows are visibly faded. Four right-side tabs select Inventory, Crafting, Journal and Map.

The Journal tab lists people you have met, six-heart relationships, discovered birthdays and up to six known loved gifts.

Using the relationship journal.

The close control and Esc work on every page. Reopening starts on Inventory.

Opening storage pauses time, movement and tools while quiet ambience continues. Esc closes storage before opening pause.

Item handling#

  • Keys 1–9, 0, minus, equals, mouse wheel, or a live-hotbar click select a hotbar item. Backpack items must be moved onto the hotbar to equip/use them.

  • Left click picks up and places/merges/swaps a stack. Dragging works between backpack and hotbar. Ctrl-left splits half onto an empty cursor, rounding up; Shift-right remains an alias. Right-clicking an occupied matching stack repeatedly gathers one more item onto the cursor each time (ten wood, four clicks → six in the slot and four held). Right-clicking an empty slot places one held item. Incompatible items and a full cursor stack are unchanged. Matching stacks cap at 999; tools take one slot each.

  • Shift-left transfers the stack between hotbar and backpack on Inventory/Crafting, or into/out of the external container on shipping/chest screens. Matching stacks fill first, then the first empty slots; any amount that cannot fit stays at its source. Shipping searches all 72 positions, including hidden pages, and still rejects tools/seeds. External-container retrieval prefers backpack then hotbar. A held cursor blocks quick transfer; modified clicks never start a drag.

  • Pickups fill matching stacks first, then empty carried slots, scanning hotbar before backpack. Recipes count both sections; harvesting requires room for the full yield. Overflow remains in the world.

  • Switching scrapbook tabs or closing returns a held stack to its original container/slot, then available carried space. If neither fits, the Inventory page remains open with its held item visible. Tools and seeds cannot be placed in the exchange. There is no trash action.

Ground resources begin attracting within 32 world pixels, then fly toward the player's feet and enter storage on arrival. Full capacity retains the remainder.

Right-click a settled nearby item to collect that stack; F remains an optional nearby shortcut.

Item quality#

Crops, fish and forage use shared quality rules.

Only matching items and quality tiers merge.

Distinct native seal badges identify premium stacks; named details include the quality.

Saving inventory#

Sleeping saves carried items; quitting discards the current session, including cursor state, and leaves the last overnight checkpoint unchanged.
